Clear Channel Ban After 911
I've been sitting here contemplating a few things about the music industry. One question that keeps popping into my head is why do radio stations, the FCC, and our own Government get to chose what we listen to? Case in point, many people don't know this but our government compiled a list, after 911, of songs that they then would ban from radio. Now, I know that what happened that day was tragic, but shouldn't we have the choice to turn the station if a song brings about feelings that we don't want to face. I mean, should they ban songs that might bring up feelings about a failed relationship because someone might take it the wrong way and commit suicide? Of course not! Yet for some reason no one wants to speak up about these things because, we believe, the government is looking out for our protection. They aren't. Ask yourself this. Why after such a horrible tragedy would they ban a song about peace? That's right, the song "Imagine" by John Lennon was banned. "Imagine" that. And also consider this, All songs by Rage Against the Machine. Yes ALL SONGS! And why? Rage songs don't contain any material that could be construed as terroristic content. I'll tell you why, because every song that Rage has in its line up is about fighting the government and thinking for yourself. The Longer we let this go on the more freedoms are being taken away. And worse yet, the government continues to take away our right and ability to think freely. Sorry to get so political because thats not what this blog is really about. But just take a look at the list. IT'S RIDICULOUS! Click on the title of this entry to go to the list.

Starewell; Where have you been?
Such a great sound! Starewell contacted me and asked me if I would listen to their music and give them some feed back. So here it is. They are truly one of the best bands that Ive heard in a long time. When so many bands today are trying mix genres Starewell is staying true to REAL ROCK. They have, however, found a way to mix sounds from some of the greatest bands in music. So much so that I can't really tell who their influences might be. That is a testament to how original they are. I've said before that I like many different styles of music. It just depends on the artist and their creativity and relevance. Starewell fits into this category very easily with a mesh of great guitar, pounding drums, outstanding vocals, and lyrics that are not only relevant but also have substance to them. And the best thing about it is that the members of this band have the ability to put it all together and make it sound Great! As a matter of fact, I've added a playlist with a few of their songs. Check them out! If you want to Learn more about Starewell click on the title of this entry. I will keep up to date with what they are doing as well as post more about Starewell on this blog. Also, any musicians out there that want more exposure, send me your music files and I will add them to my playlist.

John pence
So I'm listening to some music by John Pence. Another unknown artist that I found on the internet. Currently I'm listening to his song "mountain". An accoustic heartfelt message to his parents. What I gather from the songs that I've heard from John is that his music overall is a good mix of rock, a little bit of emo, and a touch of Jack Johnson (one of my favorite artists). I'm truly discovering a whole new world of music by creating this blog....and so far...I like what I hear! Check out some of John's music. All you have to do is click on the title of this entry.

Gidgets Ga Ga
If you haven't heard the music of Gidgets Ga Ga you need to! Honestly, This is exactly the type of band that I was refering to in the previous entry. Talented, creative, and they really break away from the repeated, boring, overplayed new bands on the radio. I listened to quite a few of their songs and I have to say that the production was good, the music itself was great, and independently the musicians themselves are very talented. Overall, they have alot of promise and theres no reason that I shouldn't be hearing them on the radio. I have enclosed a link to their myspace page. Go check them out! Just click on the title of this post.

The music industry today
So.... Here we are in 2009. The music industry as a whole has truly deteriorated. It seems now more than ever there are bands and artists that have "made it big" who, for the life of me, I can't figure out why! Bands and groups that have no talent and in truth sound exactly the same. In an age where "American Idol" tells us who to look up to I have to ask myself, are there anymore artists left? I've struggled with that question for a long time. With the exception of a few (Disturbed, Metallica, Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, Alicia Keyes, Snoop, Eminem, Garth Brooks, Toby Keith), the rest are doing things that were done about five minutes before. But, there is hope. The unsigned bands, singers, rappers, and artists that I've found through this magical thing called the internet. They are out there. And it's time that they are heard. The radio stations are also responsible for the redundance in music. Why do I have to hear the same songs played over and over again every hour? Because some corporate giant payed them for a bunch of airtime to play a band that no one wants to hear. Thats why. It shouldn't be that way. I'm not that old but I remember a time when DJ's could flip a record over and play the B side just because they wanted to. Does anyone know the song "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen? (yes the song from "Wayne's World") That song was a B side. Some DJ decided to play it one day and it became one of the band's biggest hits. I Want to play your B sides! So you are already here on my blog. Why don't you join me and post links to your music and videos so you can get your music heard. I would also like to start reviewing your music for you. I can rate it, recomend it, or maybe just give you some honest feed back. Hope to hear from you soon...
